How to read a search results page
Look above the top result first
An AI Overview, a featured snippet or a row of ads pushes the organic results down. On those pages, position three can sit below the fold, so ranking is worth less than the number suggests.
Check who holds page one
If the top 10 is all large brands and marketplaces, the keyword is hard to break into. A page one with small blogs and forums is a page you can win.
Match the format that ranks
If the top results are lists, write a list. If they are guides, write a guide. Google is showing you the format searchers want.
