What the check reveals.
The full shape of a backlink profile, and the sites behind it.
Your profile at a glance
Total backlinks, referring domains and Domain Rating, the numbers that describe your authority.
Who's actually linking
The strongest referring domains, one link per site, with the anchor text they used.
Dofollow vs nofollow
How much of your profile passes real link equity, and how much is just a mention.
Links are votes, but not all count equally.
A backlink count on its own tells you almost nothing. What matters is how many distinct, trustworthy domains link to you, and whether those links actually pass equity.
A big number built from one spammy site linking 4,000 times.
Three strong, distinct domains beat four thousand junk links.
Steal their link playbook
See exactly which sites link to a competitor. Those same sites are the most realistic targets for your own outreach.
Quality, not just quantity
Referring domain rank, dofollow split and spam score, so you can tell a real endorsement from a directory dump.

What a backlink profile actually tells you
A backlink is another site linking to yours. Search engines treat those links as votes of confidence, which is why backlinks remain one of the strongest signals in ranking. But the raw count is the least useful number in the report.
The figure that matters is referring domains: how many distinct websites link to you. One site linking 4,000 times is one vote, not four thousand. Weight that against the quality of those domains and how many links are dofollow.
Dofollow, nofollow and spam
A dofollow link passes ranking equity. A nofollow link (or one marked sponsored or UGC) tells search engines not to pass it. Nofollow links still have real value, they drive traffic, build awareness and look natural, but a profile that's almost entirely nofollow won't move your authority much.
Spam score flags profiles that look manipulated. A high score usually means a lot of links from low-quality or unrelated sites, which is the fingerprint of bought links.
How to earn links that count
There's no shortcut worth taking. Buying links violates search engine guidelines and can stall or damage a site. The durable approach is to publish things people genuinely want to cite, then make sure the right people see them.
Competitor backlinks are the best starting list: if a site linked to a rival, it's demonstrably willing to link to something like you.
- 1Pull a competitor's referring domains as your target list
- 2Publish something genuinely worth citing: data, tools, guides
- 3Pitch the sites that already cover your category
- 4Turn unlinked brand mentions into real links
- 5Never buy links, the downside far outweighs the gain
