Built for AI readers

A clean map of your site for the assistants that increasingly answer for your brand.

Why use it

Make your site easy for AI to read.

AI assistants have to make sense of your site from raw HTML and JavaScript. An llms.txt hands them a clean, plain-text map instead, so they get you right.

Without llms.txt
<div class="hero"><nav>…</nav>
<script>…</script>
<div id="app" data-… >
  <span class="c-1x">…</span>
</div></div>

AI has to guess your structure from tangled markup and JavaScript.

Guide

Understanding llms.txt.

What the file is, what goes in it, and how to publish it, the plain-English playbook for making your site AI-readable.

What llms.txt is

llms.txt is an emerging standard (from llmstxt.org) — a single markdown file you place at your site root that tells large language models what your site is and where its important pages are. Think of it as a robots.txt written for AI readers rather than search crawlers: a curated, plain-text map instead of raw HTML.

It's early. Not every AI system reads it yet, and it doesn't guarantee you'll be cited. But it's low-cost to add and positions you ahead as adoption grows.

What goes in the file

The format is simple: an H1 with your site name, an optional blockquote summary of what you do, then H2 sections (Docs, Product, Blog, and so on) listing your key pages as markdown links. An optional section can hold lower-priority links. That's it, readable by a human and a model alike.

This generator builds that structure automatically from your sitemap, so you start from a real map of your site rather than a blank file.

How to publish and maintain it

Put the file at your root so it resolves at yoursite.com/llms.txt. Always review the generated links first, trim anything you don't want AI to prioritise, and tighten the summary in your own words. Refresh it when your site structure changes.

  1. 1Review the generated links and drop any you don't want featured
  2. 2Rewrite the summary in your own clear words
  3. 3Upload the file to your site root as /llms.txt
  4. 4Keep it honest — only list pages that really exist
  5. 5Regenerate when you add or restructure sections
